Every decision on this platform begins with one question — could this hurt the child? This page explains how we answer it.
We are asking you to trust us with something sacred. A family in the Philippines or Myanmar or Laos is going to open their world — their child's unguarded, unhurried, innocent world — to a person they have only met through words on a page. The only thing that makes that possible is the knowledge that the platform holding that trust takes its responsibility with absolute seriousness.
Child safety is not a feature of Karmic Parents. It is the foundation. Everything else is built on top of it. The matching process, the Inner Room, the journey structure, the five-year commitment — all of it exists within a framework whose first and permanent priority is the protection of the child at the centre.
We are saying this at the beginning of this page and we will say it at the end. No relationship, no subscription, no revenue, no companion experience is worth the compromise of a child's safety. If we ever find ourselves in a situation where those things are in tension, the child wins. Always.
The child never knows the companion's full name, contact details, location, or employer. This is not a rule that can be turned off by request. The architecture of the platform makes it structurally impossible to share this information even if someone wanted to. The companion's identity is protected from the child's world until the child reaches 18 and gives adult consent.
No companion ever communicates directly with a family. Every letter, every teaching submission, every question, every video message passes through the platform. There are no exceptions to this. A companion who attempts to establish direct contact with a family is in breach of the platform's most fundamental rule and is terminated immediately.
Every companion application is reviewed by a real person. Background checks are conducted in the companion's country of residence. A video conversation with a team member is required. We take time to vet properly because a rushed vetting is a failed vetting. No AI, no automation, no tick-box process determines access to the platform.
In every country we operate, trusted community organisations conduct in-person family verification and regular welfare visits. They know these families personally. They are our eyes and ears in places we cannot physically be. They report directly to us. Families can also report concerns to them directly without needing to contact Karmic Parents at all.
Photographs and video involving children are only collected and shared with the explicit written consent of the child's parent or legal guardian for each specific piece of content. A blanket consent given at the start of the journey does not cover future content. Every item is individually consented. All consent is documented.
If we become aware of information suggesting a child in our programme is at risk of harm, we report to the relevant child protection authorities in the child's country of residence. This obligation overrides everything else — including confidentiality, companion relationships, and commercial considerations.
These are not guidelines. They are absolute rules. Breach of any of them results in immediate termination of membership, referral to child protection authorities where appropriate, and may result in legal action. There are no warnings for these. There are no second chances.
Any direct communication with a child — through any channel, including social media, messaging apps, email, or in person — is an immediate and irreversible breach. The prohibition is absolute and applies regardless of the companion's intentions.
Any attempt to identify the specific village, district, school, or address of a child or family — through any means — is a serious breach of child safety and platform terms. Companions are given a country and a first name. Nothing more is needed. Nothing more will be provided.
Photographs, videos, voice recordings, or any identifying information about a child received through the platform must never be shared with any third party. This includes family members, friends, social media followers, and media outlets. Every piece of content involving a child received through the platform is confidential.
All financial contributions to families must flow through the Karmic Parents platform. Direct payments bypass our safeguards — including the documentation and welfare checks that ensure contributions reach their intended purpose. They also create financial relationships that exist outside our visibility and oversight.
No meeting — in person or virtual — between a companion and a child or young person may take place outside the formal consent process described in our Terms of Service. This applies even after the child turns 18, until the consent process has been completed.
Any communication of a romantic, sexual, or inappropriately personal nature directed at any family member — child or adult — results in immediate termination and referral to authorities. This is the most serious breach possible on this platform. It is treated accordingly without exception.
The distance between companion and family is itself a safety feature. Local matching creates proximity risks that remote matching does not. Where exceptional circumstances require proximity, additional safeguards are put in place. This is never the default.
Our local partner organisations visit every family in our programme at least annually. They assess welfare, verify that the companion relationship is positive, and check for any concerns. These visits are unannounced where possible. The reports come to us directly.
Any concern raised — by a family, a local partner, a companion, or a third party — is treated as urgent. We respond within 24 hours, every time, regardless of day or time. Ssafety@karmicparents.com is monitored continuously.
If we discover a companion has breached safeguarding rules — even a long-standing companion contributing significantly to the platform — they are terminated immediately. There is no version of this decision where revenue influences the outcome.
If a safeguarding failure occurs on our platform — whether caused by a companion, a process failure, or something we did not anticipate — we will report it to relevant authorities, notify affected families, and publish what happened and what we are changing. We will not manage our reputation at the expense of transparency.
If you are a companion and something in the platform's content, in a family's communications, or in the behaviour of another user gives you concern — tell us. You will never be penalised for raising a concern in good faith. We would rather receive ten unfounded concerns than miss one real one.
If you are a family or a community member and something about the programme or a specific companion concerns you — tell our local partner organisation directly, or contact us. You do not need to have proof. You do not need certainty. A feeling is enough. Report it.
If you are a third party — a journalist, a researcher, or a member of the public — and you have concerns about this platform or its practices, our contact details are below and we will respond.

Local partners can also receive reports directly in Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos. Ask us for local partner contact details if needed.
If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. Do not wait to contact us. A child's immediate safety takes priority over any platform process.
