Cancellation Policy

We have written this policy to be as clear as possible about what happens when you cancel and under what circumstances refunds apply. If you have questions, please write to us before cancelling and we will explain your options.

Section 01

The minimum commitment

The Karmic Parents companion journey requires a minimum commitment of five years from the date of your first confirmed match with a partner family. This is not an arbitrary commercial requirement — it is a child protection measure. A child cannot be exposed to an adult presence in their life that then disappears. The minimum commitment protects the child from that harm.

When you submit your letter application and join the platform, you confirm that you understand and accept this minimum commitment. It is also stated explicitly in our Terms of Service.

If you have not yet been matched with a family, the five-year commitment has not yet begun and you may cancel at any time with a shorter notice period as set out below.

How to cancel

To cancel your membership, contact us at hello@karmicparents.com. Please include your registered email address and the reason for cancellation. We ask for the reason not to create barriers but because understanding why companions leave helps us improve the platform and because in some cases we may be able to help resolve the issue that led to the cancellation request.

A member of our team will respond within five business days to confirm your cancellation and explain the next steps including any applicable notice period and what happens to your data and content.

Cancellations cannot be processed through the platform dashboard during our current phase. All cancellations must be submitted by email.

Notice periods and scenarios

Our refund policy is simple: All subscription fees are non-refundable. If you cancel, you retain access until the end of your current billing period and no further payments are taken. We do not issue partial refunds for unused time. The only exception is cancellation due to Karmic Parents closing the platform, in which case a pro-rata refund applies.

During all notice periods your subscription continues and access remains active. The notice period for matched companions is used to manage a structured and sensitive transition with the partner family.

Section 04

What happens if you stop paying

We understand that sometimes payments fail for reasons beyond your control — a card expiry, a bank issue, a temporary financial difficulty. We handle non-payment with human judgment rather than automatic termination.

The non-payment process

We do not pursue unpaid balances

If a companion stops paying, we suspend and ultimately terminate their membership as above. We do not issue invoices for unpaid amounts. We do not engage debt collection. We do not take legal action to recover subscription fees. The consequence of non-payment is loss of membership — not a financial debt.

Future Fund contributions already made remain with the child regardless of how membership ends.

Section 05

Beyond the minimum commitment

After five years from the date of first match, the minimum commitment is fulfilled. From that point your membership continues on a rolling month-to-month basis.

To cancel after the minimum commitment, simply give 30 days written notice to hello@karmicparents.com. No early exit fee applies. No further explanation is required. Your access continues to the end of the current billing period.

Most companions choose to continue. By year five the relationship with the family is real and the child has grown up knowing — in whatever indirect way — that someone cared. Walking away from that is genuinely difficult. We do not need to incentivise continuation. We simply make it easy and make it clear that you are welcome to stay for as long as the relationship is meaningful.

We understand that circumstances change and that situations arise that make continuing a five-year commitment genuinely impossible. We approach early exit requests with human understanding, not punitive rigidity.

Circumstances we consider as valid grounds for early exit without additional fee:

In all cases we will discuss your situation privately and seek to find a solution before processing a cancellation. In some cases a temporary pause of subscription — up to three months — may be appropriate rather than full cancellation.

Early exits that do not meet the above criteria may be subject to an early exit fee equivalent to three months of your subscription rate. This fee is not punitive — it covers the cost of managing the family transition and the impact on the matched family.
